Father's Day Activitiy: Our Time

We all know that spending time together is priceless! Spending one-on-one time with dad (and mom) is so special for young children. I have a wonderful Father's Day Activity that encourages this special time throughout the year.

Materials Needed:

  • One Plastic Cup
  • One Marker (Any color)
  • One Package of Stickers
  • One Bottle of Elmer’s Glue
  • One Small 10”x 10” Piece of Cardboard
  • 5 Index cards (cut in half) or 10 Pieces of Construction Paper

Instructions:

Step 1: Tell your child to use the marker and stickers to decorate the outside of the plastic cup.

Step 2: The adult should help the child glue the bottom of the plastic cup onto one edge of the Cardboard.

Step 3: The adult should write “#1 Dad” on the cardboard next to the cup.

Step 4: Ask the child to tell you 10 different things they like to do with dad.

Examples:

  • Kick a ball
  • Go to the park
  • Eat popcorn
  • Build Blocks
  • Work on the car
  • Play tag
  • Read a Book

Step 5: Write down each thing your child says from step 4, writing one thing on each piece of paper.

Step 6: Fold each piece of paper or index card in half and place them into the plastic cup.

Step 7: On Fathers Day, tell your child to give the “trophy” to dad and say “Daddy, I love you. I feel special when you do these things with me.” Every night, if dad would like to, have dad pick one piece of paper from the cup and spend 20 minutes completing that activity with the child.

Optional: Every year, have your child replace the paper with new ones that the child likes at that time. Continue until the child is a teenager and beyond!
