"Soothing Sammy" teaches children (ages 2-6) how to calm down, communicate their feelings and problem solve in a way that is easy for them to understand and simple for your to implement. It works at home and at preschool!

This Fun and Engaging 5-Piece "Soothing Sammy" Program Includes:

    1. Children's Book - The colorful photos and simple story is perfect for toddlers, preschoolers and elementary aged children. In the story, children who are upset visit Sammy, a golden retriever, at his dog house. Sammy shows his friends, how calm down with items he has in his home (such as drinking from a child's cup, using a washcloth to dampen their face, eating a crunchy snack and listening to a calming song). Once calm, Sammy helps children identify their feelings, find out why they are mad and develop a solution to the problem. 

    2. Soothing Sammy Plush Dog (Golden Retriever) - Using an empty box or container, follow the directions in the back of the book to construct a "Sammy house" for this plush dog, which resembles the house from the children's book. Place Sammy, the plush dog, into his new home and fill it with the household items discussed in the children's book. When your child feels upset, redirect them to the Sammy house to calm down (just like the children in the book did).

      Sammy Works Fast!

      I love the Soothing Sammy program. I use the strategies in the classroom with my early learners. The children seem to really enjoy having an area to go where they feel safe and have the time they need to self regulate.

      In the past I used the program with Pre K where the children started off with having a calming Corner with assorted sensory fidget and/ or toys. Sammy was such a hit with the children they felt Sammy needed a house so we added a sensory cube to the corner where the children could go in the cube with Sammy and rest/calm their bodies knowing no one could bother them while they were there. When the child felt they were ready to join back into the play activities they did. If they felt they wanted to talk to an educator they could. Sammy eventually grew into having a playhouse within the classroom. This gave the children who were growing a more comfortable and private area to express their emotions and self regulate.

      This past year I moved into the toddler room where I introduced Sammy. I introduced the program a little slower than with PreK as the attention level of a 22 month old child is a little shorter. I introduced just Sammy at first with the sensory cube to show the children this area was a safe spot for them and no one could bother them. The following day a child came in unconsolable at drop off and it was noted on his transition to the toddler room that he would have multiple moments through the day where he was unconsolable. The child made his way through the room crying noticed Sammy and went in the sensory cube to hug Sammy. This became a safe spot for this child throughout the day when he found the classroom too overwhelming. If the child was not able to go to Sammys house on his own we would say "Where's Sammy?" to give the child a reminder that Sammy’s house was available.

      Sammy even went outside with the children for them to have a safe place outside. The toddlers use the books so much, children will request having the Sammy books read to them multiple times a day.

      I have parents asking about the program and even Elementary Teachers and Youth Service Workers asking about the program as their children went home and wanted to make their own Sammy house. The educational staff feel the program would work in their schools as well so a few have purchased.

      It’s AMAZING!!!

      I purchased The full Sammy Bundle for my child's daycare teacher because he was struggling with emotional regulation and me going back to work full time. I have to say it has been AMAZING! We are all so happy how well Sammy has worked for my son. He is at the point now where he wants to bring Sammy home. Now I’m buying a Sammy dog and book to keep my house!

      Works wonders with my first graders who have special needs.

      I am using Sammy with a group of 3 first graders who have special needs. They are loving him. I am adapting the lessons to fit their IEP goals and objectives. Their favorite part so far was making his bed and making what he would need to make him happy. We were then able to identify what made the students happy. The students are in the general education class and come to me for explicit instruction. They have shared Sammy with other students and come to give them a hug when they need it. Looking forward to many more lessons!
